Tech Trick Tuesday

This One’s For You Save-a-Holics

Here’s another trick for you shopaholics – or rather, you save-a-holics.

It’s called Karma – formerly Shoptagr. It just got a HUGGGGGGGE update with all sorts of new features. But I use it to track price drops.

The beauty of Karma is that you get notified when an item of your choosing goes on sale.

For example, you have to build back your work wardrobe because your spouse accidentally donates all of your professional clothing (true story), which means you’ve got your eye on some fancy blazers, hoping they go on sale. Instead of obsessively checking the website or actually checking your marketing emails, you use this browser extension to add it to your watch list. Then you’ll get an email when it goes on sale!

First, you need to add it to your browser. Chrome users can head here. You’ll need to create a login and such.

Once you’re set up, here’s…

How it Works

Navigate to the item you want to purchase. This can be any type of item, from clothing to pens (yes, PENS!) to shoes to furniture. I’ll be using this awesome wool-blend blazer from Banana Republic.

Once on the page, click on the blue circle with the blue background (circled in the image below) – that will pop-up an in-browser window.

Since this is an item of clothing, it asks for sizing parameters.

And when you select the “Notify when” drop-down, you’ll get this menu:

You can set the notifications only when the item is 25% off or 50% off. It’s handy if you’re looking for a significant price drop rather than $2 off plus some change.

Then you wait! Which is the hard part.

Once the item goes on sale – or is back in stock! – you’ll get an email like this:

You can also navigate to the Karma site to ORGANIZE your wishlist items.

Even check out the price evolution!

Of course I track the price of dog food!

It’s nice to track wishlist items AND everyday items like dog food or PENS. 🖋️

App Updates

One of the new updates is that you can add items to your “sales tracker” from sites that haven’t been added to Karma before. There’s a demo of how that works here, but if you land on a site that’s new, the tool will walk through it.

Also, Karma now has cashback features like Rakuten, which is cool. I haven’t checked if I get cashback from both tools…I should investigate but I probably won’t. 😉
